We recently got the chance to talk with Josh Rosenberg, a recipient of the 2019/2020 SYNC Athlete Fund, to ask him some questions. Check it out below!

Q: So where did you grow up skiing?

A: I grew up skiing at Okemo Mountain Vermont. My grandparents introduced skiing to my dad at Okemo and he did the same for me.

Q: What is your favorite discipline and why?

A: I love slalom....The quick turns and slapping gates get my adrenaline going, I love the challenge of skiing SL since its unlikely to have a perfect run, it really comes down to how well you can recover from mistakes and persevering to the end.

Q: How has this season been going so far? Are you on track for the goals you set out for yourself at the beginning of the season?

A: I have had a great start to the season. Most of November and December have been spent on fundamentals and tons of drill work which I really enjoy. I just started competing at the beginning of January and have had 2 decent slalom results. Now I am looking forward to getting some speed in the next few weeks.

Q: What is one fun fact that many friends, teammates, and coaches don't know about you?

A: I'm really into math and enjoy learning new things like I do in everything. I also love tennis as I play during the offseason.

Q: If you could give yourself one piece of advice when you first started racing what would it be?

A: Don't focus on gate training....get the fundamentals down and perfect your free skiing.

Q: If you were not a ski racer what sport do you think you would pursue instead?

A: I'd be trying to compete in tennis on the ATP tour!

Q: Which World Cup race would you want to start in the most?

A: I really want to ski the SL at Kitzbuhel. It looks incredible and challenging and it seems like it would be an amazing place to visit and also free ski.

Q: Can you walk us through your pre-race routine and describe how you mentally prepare?

A: I do a lot a rolling in the morning before I leave the house. Once I am at the mountain it's all about focus and ensuring a quality inspection. Once I finish the inspection I usually take tons of free runs to warm up doing a combination of drills and free skiing to get my balance and blood moving.

I like to keep things simple before my run as I tend to visualize the course very little. Once I'm at the start, I am super calm and relaxed, focusing all my attention and energy on the run I am about to take.

Q: Finally, we have to know, if you could be any part of a burger what would it be and why?

A: Of course I'd be the meat! Its the main attraction of the burger....:)

This is really inspiring, I used to want to grow plantanes in Florida, but after you amazing answers I would love to persue a career in ski racing. Although I would like to partake in horse farming, this is also a great option. Thanks so much, I can’t wait to see what you do in the future, and I would love to meet you and get your autograph.

With lots of love,
Chris H
